Understanding dermal fillers in Buckinghamshire

By Dr. TRACY MOUNTFORD, MBBS MBCAM

It is fair to say that most of us would prefer to have our skin looking at its best all of the time if possible. Whilst sometimes we can do this, as we get older, it gets increasingly more difficult for our body to hold up our skin and prevent it from sagging. In such a scenario, it may be worthwhile to consider getting some cosmetic treatment done to help rejuvenate your skin. If you’re especially looking towards getting non-surgical cosmetic treatment, then you may wish to consider getting dermal fillers in Buckinghamshire. Dermal fillers in Buckinghamshire are a minimally invasive treatment that have a reputation for restoring a fresh appearance to the skin. However, before you make a decision about whether or not dermal fillers in Buckinghamshire would be a treatment you’d like to have, it would be wise to understand more about them, as well as the sorts of results that you can expect from them.

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers are a treatment that can be used on a few different areas of skin on the body, and they are primarily directed at reducing the appearance of deep lines and wrinkles. They can also be used to smooth the contours of the face, to fill hollows, and to add or possibly restore volume to certain areas of the face, most commonly the lips or cheeks.

Usually, at around the age of 25 or so, our bodies will stop producing the proteins known as collagen and elastin, both of which are important because they keep the skin firm and elastic. Furthermore, the collagen and elastin proteins that already exist in our bodies will begin to break down. Dermal fillers aim to combat this by using injections of hyaluronic fluid. This is a fluid which attracts and binds water, meaning that it can give the skin more hydration. It also works by cushioning and supporting existing collagen and elastin protein fibres. This makes it easier for the collagen and elastin to deliver necessary nutrients and messages to the skin cells and thus helps the skin to retain firmness and elasticity for longer.

The treatment itself lasts for around 9 to18 months depending on the type of hyaluronic acid filler used, as this is how long it usually takes for hyaluronic fluid to break down. If you do wish to keep the soft, rejuvenated appearance of your skin for longer, then your practitioner will be able to advise you about possible further treatments that can help you to retain and even enhance results in some cases as well.
