FAQ

Young skin is moisturised and kept hydrated from within by hyaluronic acid (HA) – a substance that occurs naturally within the body. As we get older, the hyaluronic acid content of our skin decreases and fine lines start to appear on the face. Sun, diet and genetic factors all play their part in causing wrinkles, with saggy skin and skin folds causing fat loss.

Restylane is a premium treatment that hydrates and moisturises the skin from within to improve its condition overall. It’s an injectable gel made of hyaluronic acid that helps to give the skin its elasticity and volume.

Restylane is available as a range of dermal fillers and as a Skinbooster for different treatment options:

  • Restoring – Restylane Restore products fill lines and wrinkles and replace lost volume due to ageing to help restore a healthy, refreshed appearance. These dermal fillers are versatile enough to address different facial areas such as the forehead, eye area, mouth and cheeks.
  • Enhancing – Restylane Enhance products provide definition and shape to your facial contours, helping to enhance your facial balance. These hyaluronic acid fillers can be used in a number of facial areas, such as the nose, lips, chin and cheeks.
  • Refreshing – Restylane Skinboosters reduce fine lines and imperfections, such as acne scarring, gradually improving your skin’s condition and elasticity. They deliver hydration deep inside the skin

Different products within the Restylane range are for different skin areas and outcomes. At your initial consultation with our qualified medical practitioners, we’ll discuss a personalised treatment plan that’s tailored to you.

Restylane dermal fillers:

  • Soften and reduce facial lines
  • Smooth away wrinkles
  • Shape and re-contour facial features
  • Redefine cheekbones and restore volume to cheeks
  • Restore volume to lips.

Restylane Skinboosters:

  • Increase skin elasticity and firm the skin
  • Hydrate skin deep in the dermis for ongoing skin hydration
  • Improve skin lustre and luminosity
  • Smooth and soften the skin
  • Reduce imperfections such as acne scars
  • Restore plumpness and radiance.

Restylane filler treatments provide instant results with long lasting effects for up to nine months, though this can depend on the area treated.

With Restylane Skinboosters, visible improvements for fresher-looking skin can be seen after just one treatment but we may recommend a course of three treatments spaced several weeks apart.

Results can last 6-18 months, depending on the patient and the area treated. Facial fillers are not permanent and will break down over time so further treatment may be required to maintain your natural, understated appearance. Your medical practitioner will give you all the advice you need and may recommend maintenance treatments to maintain your natural airbrushed appearance.

With Restylane Skinboosters, depending on the condition of your skin, we may recommend regular maintenance treatments every six months.

Restylane must be administered by a trained medical healthcare professional. Dr Tracy Mountford, owner of The Cosmetic Skin Clinic, is renowned for her light hands and natural looking results. She personally handpicks and trains all of our medical practitioners to the highest level.

There is no need for allergy testing because Restylane fillers contain hyaluronic acid which naturally occurs in your skin anyway and is used in other medical procedures such as eye surgery.

Restylane dermal fillers involve injections of hyaluronic acid gel with a very fine needle. Treatment with Restylane Skinboosters involves involves micro-injections of tiny droplets of hyaluronic acid gel. Treatment usually takes approximately 15-40 minutes depending on the area treated.

No, there’s no downtime and you can resume your normal activities after treatment.

Many people find their procedure at The Cosmetic Skin Clinic more comfortable than expected. Our medical practitioners are highly skilled and precise; you should merely feel a light sting on your skin during the injection procedure. Most Restylane products are available with a built-in anaesthetic – Lidocaine – for a more comfortable experience.

As with any injection, you may experience some slight redness or minor bruising around the treatment areas which should subside after a few days though, for some people, bruising can last for two weeks. We may recommend you avoid make up for 24 hours after treatment but you can then use it to cover any discolouration. You should also stay out of the sun and saunas until any initial swelling or redness disappears.

Both treatments involve injections, but botulinum toxin relaxes muscle movement that results in wrinkles while Restylane dermal fillers plump out lines, restore volume or gently define and shape facial features.

Restylane is a popular option for reducing facial wrinkles and improving skin quality for both men and women. We provide a discreet service for all our patients.
