Focal hyperhidrosis, the more common type, affects areas such as the hands, feet and underarms, often without a clear underlying cause. Generalised hyperhidrosis affects the whole body and may be linked to an underlying illness, hormonal changes or certain medicines.
Commonly used to treat wrinkles, botulinum toxin injections can also help manage excessive sweating. At The Cosmetic Skin Clinic, we treat underarm sweating only. We do not treat the hands or feet due to the associated discomfort, downtime and potential side effects.

Hyperhidrosis is a term for excess sweating and is treated with injections of botulinum toxin. This is an FDA-approved medicine that’s a muscle relaxant.
At The Cosmetic Skin Clinic, our experts administer a series of small injections in the armpit area during the procedure.
Botulinum toxin is a naturally purified protein that blocks the signals from the nerve endings to the sweat glands in the skin. This is used in the treatment of excessive sweating. This toxin is applied through micro injections into the skin targeting the sweat glands in the area which requires treatment. This safe procedure is proven to give dramatic and life-changing results for many who suffer from this condition.
It normally takes 5-7 days for the muscle relaxant injections to work.
You may need to repeat treatment for sweating approximately every 3-4 months. Your medical practitioner will give you all the advice you need.
Botulinum toxin has an excellent safety profile with over 2.5 million users to date across the UK, France, Italy, Spain and Germany. The doses are very small and the risks are minimal. If any do occur, they’re temporary.
Potential side effects may include:
