Is CoolSculpting in London safe?

By Dr. TRACY MOUNTFORD, MBBS MBCAM

Do you have a double chin, wobbly arms or stubborn belly fat that just won’t budge? We all have areas of our body that make us feel insecure and despite our efforts to change them, sometimes we just need a little extra help. CoolSculpting is an FDA- approved form of fat reduction that utilises freezing temperatures to break down body fat. This non-surgical procedure does not damage the neighbouring cells, instead it specifically targets areas of fat using a vacuum-like applicator that cools the fat cells.

How does it work?

CoolSculpting, also known as cryolipolysis, is a non-invasive, cosmetic treatment that is similar to liposuction in the way it targets precise areas of fat. However, it does not involve surgery, anaesthetic, so carries a smaller risk than liposuction. This procedure can take up to an hour and results take approximately 4-6 months for the fat cells to dissipate from the body. On average, most patients will experience a 20% decrease in body fat from the targeted areas, though this can vary and be even higher depending on the individual.

Does is have a high success rate?

With fewer risks and side-effects, CoolSculpting in London does have a high success rate for reducing areas of stubborn fat. No cosmetic treatment is a miracle cure for stubborn body fat, but combined with a healthy diet and exercise, the results can be very noticeable. Research has shown that when measured with a caliper, clients lose on average 14.67% to 28% of body fat in the target areas. But more specifically, our cosmetic skin clinics in London and Buckinghamshire are some of the most experienced in western Europe and the UK, with over 20,000 treatments under our belt.

Is it safe?

As we have discussed, CoolSculpting is non-surgical and therefore carries fewer risks than similar procedures. Studies have shown that it does not cause a reduction in lipid levels and liver function, nor should it damage the skin. Some people do experience some discomfort and numbness when the suction begins, but most report that the pain subsides after around 10 minutes. In fact, some patients have actually fallen asleep during the treatment.

Is it worth it?

CoolSculpting in London is a safe and effective way to sculpt your body without going under a surgical procedure. Unlike exercise and a strict diet, this procedure destroys targeted fat cells which the body naturally disposes of in the following weeks, meaning they cannot return or expand with weight gain. Unlike similar methods such as liposuction, CoolSculpting does not involve any tissue manipulation, surgery or anaesthesia and does not require any recovery time; most patients resuming their normal activities the same day.
