What is CoolSculpting?
Usually, the number of fat cells in our bodies is set during childhood, with only a small amount of variation from that number as we get into adulthood. Because of this, there are often stubborn pockets of fat here and there on the body which are difficult to get rid of or reduce in size. CoolSculpting, however, manages to reduce the size of these areas by using a technique called cryolipolysis, sometimes referred to as fat freezing. Although this technique does not actually freeze fat per se, it does gently and precisely cool the body’s fat cells. This causes them to crystallise and die, which ultimately leads to a visible reduction in the appearance of these fat pockets. The body does need some time though to metabolise and dissolve the dead fat cells into the bloodstream. This means that CoolSculpting is a treatment with progressive improvement, the results of the treatment should first begin to be visible at around 4 – 6 weeks, and these results should continue to look better and better for the next 14 -16 weeks after treatment.
One thing worth noting however is that CoolSculpting is designed to reduce the appearance of fat, rather than to reduce weight itself. This is because weight loss tends to only occur when fat cells reduce in size, rather than when they reduce in number via CoolSculpting. Make no mistake though, CoolSculpting is a treatment that should give you a noticeably more contoured and sculpted look to your body.
