How To Treat Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis)

In this week’s Q&A, I want to discuss something which is a ‘hot’ topic, that couldn’t be more timely. Most of us are perspiring in this hot weather, but are you a sufferer of Hyperhidrosis– or in layman’s terms, excessive sweating?

Here at The Cosmetic Skin Clinic, we see a lot of men and women who are bothered by excessive sweating. It has a true impact on their lives because it alters the way people dress and how they interact in social situations. It can be really troublesome for people of all ages.

Often patients have consulted their GP for Hyperhidrosis and have tried alternative treatments first before coming in to see us.

How do you treat Hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition. The procedure we use to treat hyperhidrosis involves injections of a neuromodulator which is injected superficially, just beneath the surface of the skin. The idea is that we inject this product into the armpit to inhibit the sweat glands from producing excess sweat.

How long does it take to see the results?

The treatment takes approximately two to three weeks to take hold and reach its full effect; at this point, we will review the patient to monitor their progress and assess their results. For such a simple procedure, from a patient point of view, it has a truly life-changing effect. It means patients can focus far less on sweating and feel much more confident and content whilst going about their daily lives.
