Continuing on with our case studies and patient stories of what can be done in different age categories. This week we are featuring a filler treatment for a patient in her fifties.
Jackie came to The Cosmetic Skin Clinic for advice to address the signs of ageing on her face which was making her look tired and drawn. In this video Dr Joanna Christou carries out a comprehensive assessment and treatment plan for Jackie, identifying her areas of volume loss which she goes on to treat using HA dermal fillers. These fillers are formulated to restore lost volume, elasticity hydration and skin health. They are specifically developed with facial movement in mind meaning that your expressions remain dynamic, and more importantly, natural.
To demonstrate how we can approach each area of concern, Dr Joanna divides the patient’s face into thirds; upper, mid and lower face.
You can watch Dr Joanna Christou’s full treatment assessment here.
Upper face assessment
In the top third of the face we can see volume loss particularly in the temple area. When we lose structure and support in this area it allows the drop of a brow. So, buy restoring the temple hollows with filler, it provides lift and elevation which opens up the eye to make it look brighter – there is also volume loss underneath the eye which can make the eye look tired and drawn. By placing micro-amounts of dermal filler strategically, in the hollowing underneath the eye, (known as the ‘tear trough’) we can smooth and re-contour this area, opening up the eyes to look brighter and more youthful.
Mid face assessment
In the mid zone of the face there is some mid-cheek hollowing, both towards the front and the back of the cheeks that creates a drawn-in look which emphasises the bony part of the face. By putting filler back into these areas (carefully so not to over-volumise) I will simply soften the shape of the face, to look more youthful and healthier.
Lower face assessment
In the lower part of the face there is loss of volume just underneath the mouth and towards the back of the jaw, as well as loss of volume just in front of the ear which gives way to a jowl. By putting support in the back of the jaw, we can just create a bit of a pullback which redefines the jawline and we can also support it anteriorly in the marionette area of the mouth.
The overall effect in each third of the face is that no one treatment will drastically alter her face but the combination of each, will make her look refreshed, more youthful, softer and even more attractive.

Here’s Jackie immediately after her treatment…
“I’m very happy with the results. When I came today, looking at my face in the mirror beforehand, you could see that it was a lot hollower and sunk… the volume has been completely restored and it looks softer as a result, so I am very happy with it!”
