Daily Mail Nip & Tuck – Damaged Earlobes From Dangly Earrings

The Nip & Tuck articles by Dr Tracy Mountford appear weekly, in print and online, in the Monday ‘Inspire’ section. In this week’s column, a reader would like to do something about her earlobes which have been damaged from wearing heavy earrings.

Help! Dangly earrings have ruined my earlobes!

Dr Mountford explains that, earlobes like hands, can really reveal a person’s age. Fillers area a popular anti-ageing treatment for the face  – and you can resolve your ear problems in a similar way.

After years of wearing heavy earrings, you are suffering from over-stretching of the earlobes. The earrings may look great, but can cause drooping over prolonged periods of time. This results in elongated holes and saggy lobes.

We can address this issue with hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Restylane and Juvederm. These are a quick fix to plump up the skin of the earlobe and smooth wrinkles. The fillers are injected around the perimeter of the piercing, to fight loss of volume in the area. The injections also prevent the delicate earlobes from ripping and provide extra cushioning for the earrings in future. This is a quick and relatively painless procedure with no downtime and results are immediate.
