Dr Tracy Mountford

Dr Tracy Mountford

is a key opinion leader in the world of non-surgical cosmetic treatments she is known for her light hands and has been named as one of the top cosmetic doctors in the UK. Here she discusses the latest trends in non-surgical facial rejuvenation.

“I believe that the media has had a huge impact on peoples interest in aesthetic treatments and that the availability of information through newspapers, magazines, the Internet and on TV has helped make cosmetic enhancement more main stream and less in the realm of the rich and famous. However I also believe that our fascination with celebrity has played its part in its huge growth. We are in an era now where this kind of work has become an extension of personal grooming. “I think the celebrity culture has definitely had an influence on the market too, although, as we know, they are not always the best ambassadors!”

“I am an ordinary woman in her 40s and I do what all women of that age group do, we look in the mirror and we think we don’t look like we used to, even with our makeup on! But the exciting thing is that there is so much non-surgically out there now that can help restore our fresh looks. My philosophy is to enhance natural beauty rather than alter looks and creating a natural look is a key part of my approach to a patient.”

“In the last 5 years the trend has changed; the key is to not look like you have had something done. It is about the ‘make-under’ rather than a ‘make-over’ effect. I believe all women have a natural beauty about them and it is my job to bring that out. Soft natural enhancement of features with a softening of lines to give an airbrushed look is my trademark.”

“What we do at The Cosmetic Skin Clinic is to make people look as good as they can for their age. When I first started practising 20 years ago we only had a few treatments in our armory: treatments that are still the staples of any good aesthetic practice today; botox, dermal fillers and peels. One of the most exciting developments in recent years has been the way in which these treatments have expanded and evolved, for example there are some superb technologies and treatments which deliver excellent results which are now available. These include pixilated laser treatments that improve the texture and tone of the skin and radio- frequency treatments such as Thermage. Thermage has been clinically proven to tighten and gently lift skin to smooth out wrinkles and renew facial contours including the jaw line and neck area and can even improve crêpey abdomens and baggy upper arms. All these treatments, when performed skilfully, expertly and appropriately, deliver results that are soft, subtle yet dramatically rejuvenating.”

“There is a greater understanding about what contributes to the ageing face; it’s not just about lines, but about the descent of the brow, loss of facial volume, even loss of skull density. At the same time, treatments have become more sophisticated – we can volumise, hydrate and even stimulate collagen at bone level. The way I approach treatment is to make patients look refreshed and rejuvenated but they still look like themselves… just better. People are always asking me ‘what’s new’? But new doesn’t always mean better – new means new, new means interesting and worth a look.”

“A new product or technique might well prove to be good, but it might not. I always like to wait and see exactly how a new product or technique develops. Once I am convinced of its safety and efficacy, then I will offer it. I think we are in a very exciting time that’s going at a very fast pace, but the main problem for the potential patient will be confusion about treatments and where to go. This is where practitioner choice becomes so important – my advice is to see a responsible, experienced cosmetic medical practitioner who can guide them through this maze!”

Yes it’s true, as mentioned in the Daily Mail today, many celebrities such as Amanda Holden,Linda Evangelista, and Sharron Davies to name but a few, have all favoured Thermage (Radio Frequency Skin Tightening) as a preference for improving skin laxity and combating wrinkles.

The deep uniform heating causes collagen to immediately tighten. This tightening process continues so that, over a period of time, new and remodelled collagen is produced to further tighten skin. This results in a healthier and smoother looking skin and a more youthful appearance.

This treatment has been available for many years now, more and more people want to regain a youthful appearance without having to resort to surgery. Restoring and enhancing your natural beauty does not have to involve a stay in hospital or downtime for your busy schedule! Today its more about the ‘ make under’ Looking fresher and more rejuvenated.

A Smile can speak a thousand words!

Juvéderm® ULTRA SMILE: the first hyaluronic acid dermal lip filler with lidocaine, specifically designed for lips, were the title sponsors for an interesting event on April 27th for the CEWUK at The Avenue restaurant in London. With the expert help of Dr. Tracy Mountford of The Cosmetic Skin Clinic, they learnt all about the advances in lip enhancement techniques and how to avoid the dreaded “trout pout.”

We are all familiar with the saying “A smile can speak a thousand words”.

A person will smile simply to look happy or friendly, but many will also admit to using a winning smile to get ahead at work or attract a partner. The Daily Mail (March 3rd) ran a headline “Want to seduce a man? Smile at him 35 times every hour”. Highly improbable – or is it?

Allergan, the makers of the Juvéderm® range of dermal fillers, recently conducted a European SMILE survey which turned up some fascinating findings. *Lip shrinkage begins between the ages of 30 and 40 •Recent Unilever* study revealed that women who have full, firm lips look much younger than they really are:

–Even if a woman gets wrinkles and her hair loses its sheen and begins to grey, fuller lips can save the day –Genes are the main reason why lips become shriveled or stay firm: external causes like sun damage have a smaller role

–A full pout is a key sign of sexual allure

•Previous studies** have also determined facial attractiveness is a combination of large eyes and full lips as well as the relationship between the face contour and the eyes, mouth and nose
