Dr Tracy Mountford
is a key opinion leader in the world of non-surgical cosmetic treatments she is known for her light hands and has been named as one of the top cosmetic doctors in the UK. Here she discusses the latest trends in non-surgical facial rejuvenation.
“I believe that the media has had a huge impact on peoples interest in aesthetic treatments and that the availability of information through newspapers, magazines, the Internet and on TV has helped make cosmetic enhancement more main stream and less in the realm of the rich and famous. However I also believe that our fascination with celebrity has played its part in its huge growth. We are in an era now where this kind of work has become an extension of personal grooming. “I think the celebrity culture has definitely had an influence on the market too, although, as we know, they are not always the best ambassadors!”
“I am an ordinary woman in her 40s and I do what all women of that age group do, we look in the mirror and we think we don’t look like we used to, even with our makeup on! But the exciting thing is that there is so much non-surgically out there now that can help restore our fresh looks. My philosophy is to enhance natural beauty rather than alter looks and creating a natural look is a key part of my approach to a patient.”
“In the last 5 years the trend has changed; the key is to not look like you have had something done. It is about the ‘make-under’ rather than a ‘make-over’ effect. I believe all women have a natural beauty about them and it is my job to bring that out. Soft natural enhancement of features with a softening of lines to give an airbrushed look is my trademark.”
“What we do at The Cosmetic Skin Clinic is to make people look as good as they can for their age. When I first started practising 20 years ago we only had a few treatments in our armory: treatments that are still the staples of any good aesthetic practice today; botox, dermal fillers and peels. One of the most exciting developments in recent years has been the way in which these treatments have expanded and evolved, for example there are some superb technologies and treatments which deliver excellent results which are now available. These include pixilated laser treatments that improve the texture and tone of the skin and radio- frequency treatments such as Thermage. Thermage has been clinically proven to tighten and gently lift skin to smooth out wrinkles and renew facial contours including the jaw line and neck area and can even improve crêpey abdomens and baggy upper arms. All these treatments, when performed skilfully, expertly and appropriately, deliver results that are soft, subtle yet dramatically rejuvenating.”
“There is a greater understanding about what contributes to the ageing face; it’s not just about lines, but about the descent of the brow, loss of facial volume, even loss of skull density. At the same time, treatments have become more sophisticated – we can volumise, hydrate and even stimulate collagen at bone level. The way I approach treatment is to make patients look refreshed and rejuvenated but they still look like themselves… just better. People are always asking me ‘what’s new’? But new doesn’t always mean better – new means new, new means interesting and worth a look.”
“A new product or technique might well prove to be good, but it might not. I always like to wait and see exactly how a new product or technique develops. Once I am convinced of its safety and efficacy, then I will offer it. I think we are in a very exciting time that’s going at a very fast pace, but the main problem for the potential patient will be confusion about treatments and where to go. This is where practitioner choice becomes so important – my advice is to see a responsible, experienced cosmetic medical practitioner who can guide them through this maze!”

We are approaching that time of year when treatment for thread veins is at its optimum. Microsclerotherapy, the gold standard treatment for reticular, spider and thread veins is a safe and very effective method of removing unsightly, superficial leg veins. Compression stockings are worn for 3 days following treatment, which is why early Autumn is a convenient time.
Sclerotherapy is a permanent solution for the areas treated, but new areas may appear, however, of the areas treated there will be an overall improvement of 80% to 90%. The Veins will appear worse to begin with but after 2 – 3 weeks the veins will fade. So think ahead, plan your treatment around your holiday or special occasion where your legs will be on display and regain your self confidence for winter sun or those sheer luxury stockings you want to wear!

I have just undergone a lip hydration at The Cosmetic Skin Clinic with Restylane Vital Light. It looks incredible, a bit like someone has turned the clock back 20 years and given me my smoother, plumper lips back. This is not a lip enhancement. Your lips will feel like they have been moisturised, which they have from within, but also this treatment restores the natural volume loss we all get with ageing, so your lips just look fuller but not augmented.
Before Restylane Vital After Restylane Vital
Restylane Vital boosts the skin’s hydration system by delivering hyaluronic acid in the skin providing deep dermal hydration to nourish your lips to make your lips look rounder and softer without a hint of a pout. The effects are very subtle and it is the perfect treatment for men and women with a good natural shape to their lips.
The treatment comprises two treatment sessions about 4 weeks apart, top up treatments approximately every 6 – 9 months.
