Can fat freezing REALLY make you slimmer?

One of the most popular treatments at The Cosmetic Skin Clinic is CoolSculpting, a non-surgical procedure that freezes stubborn fat cells. Fat freezing is an in-demand procedure at the moment, and chances are, you’ve probably read about it or seen it online. However, I’m still asked a lot of questions about how it works. Is it just a myth? Does it actually make you slimmer?

Well, freezing fat cells really does make them disappear for good. At our practice, we routinely perform fat freezing on women and men of all ages to recontour, remodel, and slim permanently.

So, how does it work?

We have millions and millions of fat cells in our body, and we often have them in areas where we don’t necessarily want them. Our backs, stomachs, arms, and thighs are common places to find these stubborn fat cells that won’t go away.

When you freeze one of these fat cells in the target area, it undergoes a natural, physiological process called cell death. The body then eliminates the cell through the lymphatic system and drainage. It’s a very safe procedure, and results can be seen in about eight to ten weeks once the cell has been completely eliminated from the body.

Overall, we can get about a 25% to 30% reduction in any one area. It does vary from person to person, which is why we monitor all the results. However, since it’s so common nowadays, we can treat pretty much anywhere on the body within reason. One of the most common areas we treat is double chins, which is a big issue for both men and women.

The other exciting thing about fat freezing is that the cooling causes skin to contract, making it firmer and tighter. Sometimes, when a person loses weight, the skin can sag and look baggy. That’s not true with the CoolSculpting technology. Not only does it get rid of fat permanently, but it actually causes the skin to tighten and firm up.

CoolSculpting is great for targeting those extra bits that won’t go away. A lot of people go to the gym, have a healthy lifestyle, and still have stubborn areas of fat they simply can’t get rid of. Fat freezing is a safe, innovative way to tone, contour, and shape different areas of the body, whether you’re slim, curvy, or otherwise.
