By Dr. TRACY MOUNTFORD, MBBS MBCAM

Stubborn fat is, well, stubborn to remove!

You may feel like you’ve tried everything; all the exercise regimes under the sun, bending yourself into weird shapes at yoga classes and let’s not get started on kale smoothies!

What else is there to try, to get rid of that stubborn fat?

If you are not too keen on traditional cosmetic options for removing excess fat, there is now a modern approach you can try!

At The Cosmetic Skin Clinic, our team is made up of the UK’s leading experts in providing CoolSculpting in London. A non-invasive way to get rid of stubborn fat, this method promotes fat loss gradually and naturally, allowing you to get on with your day without worrying about aftercare.

Of course, before you rush off to book CoolSculpting in London, you will probably want a bit more background on this procedure!

How was it discovered?

The discovery of how to freeze excess fat happened completely by accident and can be traced to two dermatologists at the University of Massachusetts. Put simply, they noticed that children who regularly consumed frozen lollies developed dimples in their cheeks, whereas children who didn’t never gained this unique facial characteristic.

Intrigued, the dermatologists experimented with applying temperatures of about 40 degrees Fahrenheit to other parts of the participants’ bodies, to discover if this cool temperature worked on other areas; it did! Leading to the FDA in 2010 announcing that CoolSculpting in London was a safe and simple way to remove an excess amount of fat without surgery; perfect!

What to expect

The technical term for this type of fat removal is cryolipolysis and, if you choose to undertake this procedure, you may be puzzled about what to expect. Don’t worry, it doesn’t involve holding frozen lollies to areas that you want to tone!

Our team at The Cosmetic Skin Clinic will invite you for an initial consultation, to discuss the goals you want to achieve with the cryolipolysis. Our team will develop a customised plan just for you and, during your second consultation, the procedure will take place. Depending on the amount of treatment you want, you may have to attend two consultations but, as these appointments are a maximum of 60 minutes, they are easy to slip into your daily routine.

A gel pad and a vacuum are placed on the area that you wish to have reduced; the vacuum gently sucks the fat and cools it to a temperature of 40 degrees Fahrenheit. As it is a targeted treatment, your skin and organs are not put under any pressure and so there is no risk of them becoming damaged.

Post procedure

After the fat cells have been cooled, they gradually die and are naturally excreted by your body.

There is no aftercare to worry about following cryolipolysis; once the treatment has been completed you are free to go about your day as usual.

Over the next few weeks, you will notice that the treated area will become more slender and toned, without unwanted stretch marks or bruising.
