What exactly is Ultherapy? A basic guide by The Cosmetic Skin Clinic

By Dr. TRACY MOUNTFORD, MBBS MBCAM

In the not so distant past, it was considered impossible to alter your appearance in even the smallest way without undertaking surgery.

However, the risks associated with these methods forced clinics and surgeons to rethink how to approach cosmetic problems and today, there are more surgery-free cosmetic options than ever before.

If you are one of the many people looking for a way to refresh your appearance, you may feel a bit spoilt for choice when browsing these options trying to pick the one for you.

Luckily, we can help! At The Cosmetic Skin Clinic, our professional team can offer you a wide variety of non-surgical options to help you revitalise the appearance of your skin, including Ultherapy in London.

But, if you are new to the field of cosmetic surgery, you will want to know more about Ultherapy in London before selecting it as the optimum treatment for you. Therefore, our team at The Cosmetic Skin Clinic has provided the following brief guide to help you become more knowledgeable about the procedure.

What is it?

In simple terms, Ultherapy in London is a non-invasive and non-surgical way to tighten and lift your skin.

The system associated with this technique, the Ulthera system, is used to provide a micro-focused ultrasound to your skin, naturally increasing the amount of collagen in your skin, which makes your skin firmer.

This method is useful to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and to minimise the appearance of sagging skin under the chin, on the neck and around the eyes.

How does it work?

The Ulthera system uses the energy of ultrasound to create vibrations under the surface of the skin.

When put on to a particular area, the system causes a targeted rise in temperature, to around 60 degrees celsius for a short period, while also creating small coagulation points around the area. This simple process boosts your skin’s production of collagen and elastic tissues, which tightens your skin and reduces the appearance of wrinkles.

Will I notice the difference straight away?

After you have had this treatment at The Cosmetic Skin Clinic, it is unlikely that you will notice any difference in the first few days; as this system works by boosting a naturally occurring process and does not rely on injecting chemicals, it can take time to see the difference.

However, some clients have reported seeing results in as little as 3 days post treatment but, on average, it takes between 1-3 months for the treatment to reach its full effect.

Aftercare

One of the main benefits of this treatment is that it comes with minimal aftercare.

However, our team will advise against any strenuous or high-intensity exercise for up to 48 hours post treatment; this is to prevent any swelling or bruising to the area where the treatment was performed.

But, you will be able to use your favourite moisturiser, use an exfoliating scrub and wear make-up as you did before the procedure, without any unwanted side-effects. It’s a win-win situation!
