What to expect from your Botox injections treatment?

Using a very fine needle, Botox (Botulinum Toxin Type A) is administered to the treatment area with minimal discomfort over a 20-minute appointment. Due to the pain factor being minimal, there is no need for any local anaesthetic for your anti wrinkle injections treatment. Our expert practitioners will effortlessly target your problem area/s such as forehead lines, frown lines, smoker’s lines, neck lines etc.

How does Botox work?

Botox, or botulinum toxin, functions by temporarily blocking nerve signals in targeted muscles. This interference inhibits muscle contraction, leading to the temporary paralysis or temporary weakening of the treated muscles. As a result, dynamic wrinkles, formed by repetitive facial expressions, are smoothed out. The wrinkle relaxing effects will take between 2 and 8 days to get to work.

Baby Botox

Baby botox, also known as preventative Botox is when muscle relaxant is employed as a preventative measure, it inhibits the development of lines and facial wrinkles rather than addressing pre-existing and firmly established ones. Its primary function is to relax the facial muscles responsible for wrinkle formation, making preventative Botox suitable for use before facial wrinkles become apparent. Learn more about this technique on our dedicated “baby Botox vs Botox” blog.

FAQ

BOTOX® or Botulinum Toxin A, is a naturally purified protein that works as a muscle relaxant. It prevents muscle contractions and it is often prescribed by doctors in the UK to treat medical conditions such as chronic migraines, eyelid spasms, and even hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating in the armpits). Botulinum Toxin Type A is such a versatile treatment that can be used to also delay the ageing process and treat facial lines, frown lines, forehead lines and more.

Determining whether you are suitable for Botox requires a thorough consultation with our qualified Botox practitioners. Our experts will consider various factors to determine your eligibility for Botox treatment. Some general aspects that would be assessed include:

  • Your medical history
  • Medication use
  • Pregnancy/ breastfeeding
  • Facial muscle strength and structure
  • Aesthetic goals
  • Realistic expectations
  • Age

You may need to repeat your wrinkle relaxing treatment approximately every 3-4 months over a 12-month period to maintain fresh, rejuvenated effects, and a natural appearance. Clinical trials report that some patients who’ve had treatment over 12 months only need further treatments once or twice the following year. Your medical practitioner will give you all the advice you need.

To maintain the desired results, we recommend receiving follow-up Botox injections every 3 to 4 months. Again, this can vary as some individuals may find the effects last longer or shorter.

Your expert practitioner will provide personalised advice in which they assess your specific needs, recommend a treatment plan including determining the optimal timing to administer Botox injections for your top-up treatment.

Botox treatment usually takes around 20 minutes. If there’s a little bruising after your wrinkle relaxing injections, you can easily camouflage it with makeup. There is no downtime and you can resume normal activities right away knowing your facial wrinkles are reducing.

Botox has an excellent safety profile across the world. The quantities administered are low, resulting in minimal side effects. If any potential risks do occur, they are temporary and just mild to moderate in nature. These temporary side effects, typically resolving within 48 hours, can include bruising, headache, swelling or flu-like symptoms.

We cannot emphasise strongly enough the importance of having BOTOX injections administered by healthcare professionals, specifically doctors and nurses with the necessary qualifications and clinical expertise. While the risk is minimal, the presence of a qualified practitioner in the event of any potential side effects is absolutely paramount. Our handpicked and trained medical practitioners will provide guidance and a safe setting from consultation to final results.

There are a number of reasons someone might not be able to have Botox treatment, and these can include:

  • Age restriction – Botox for cosmetic purposes is banned for anyone under 18 years of age.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Individuals who are allergic to any ingredients in Botox or have had a previous adverse reaction to botulinum toxin injections should not undergo treatment.
  • You have a skin infection. It is advisable to postpone Botox treatment until the infection has cleared.
  • You are taking certain medicines – in your consultation, your practitioner will advise you on this.
  • Anyone who has a neuromuscular condition. For instance, someone who has myasthenia gravis, may be at increased risk of complications from Botox injections as it affects the transmission of nerve signals to muscles.

At your consultation, our practitioner will assess and provide all the advice on whether this treatment is appropriate for you.

BOTOX® (botulinum toxin A) is a drug made from Clostridium botulinum bacterium. The BOTOX® injection is a purified protein derived from the toxin and is used in both medical and cosmetic procedures to treat conditions such as:

  • Chronic migraine
  • Teeth grinding
  • Hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating
  • Overactive bladder or urinary incontinence
  • Smoothing of lines and facial wrinkles

BOTOX injections work by blocking muscle movement and the interaction between the muscles and the nerve signals. It is FDA approved for the improvement of facial lines and wrinkles.

BOTOX® does not contain any animal products. In fact, it comes from a bacterium called Clostridium Botulinum. However, like most pharmaceuticals, there is a brief period of animal testing to ensure the treatment is safe for human use.
